Three more key players are returning to GIANTS Netball for the 2019 season, with Sam Poolman, Jamie-Lee Price and Kiera Austin re-signing with the club.

A part of the GIANTS Netball Leadership Group, Poolman recorded the best defensive stats for GIANTS during the 2018 Suncorp Super Netball regular season, taking 16 intercepts and 17 defensive rebounds, while making 40 deflections.

Named to the Samsung Australian Diamonds squad for 2018/19, Price has been a dynamite defender for GIANTS Netball in the 2018 season and has dominated in the midcourt no matter the teams GIANTS have faced.

Austin debuted as a GIANT in the Round 2 match against Adelaide Thunderbirds and each subsequent appearance on court saw her develop her skills and presence as she battled against the best players in the world. She played three quarters in the Preliminary Final against Sunshine Coast Lightning, netting 12 of 16 attempts and showcasing creative plays against the reigning premiers. She has also just been named as a Training Partner for the Samsung Australian Diamonds Team for their pre-departure September training camp.

GIANTS Netball Head Coach Julie Fitzgerald welcomes the re-signing of the players.

“Sam, Jamie-Lee and Kiera all developed incredibly as players this season and really showed they can play the type of game needed as GIANTS. Sam was a massive contributor to a defensive unit that was one of the best in the league this season and is a vital leader for us within the team.

“What Jamie-Lee brings to the GIANTS Netball midcourt cannot be overlooked, with her unrelenting drive and willingness to battle for each ball, while Kiera stepped up to the mark as an attacker and impressed greatly with how she held up under pressure in the Preliminary Final.

“The talent, dedication and character of all three players are exactly what we want at the Club and we gladly welcome them back for the 2019 season,” says Fitzgerald.

GIANTS Netball have also elevated 2018 Training Partner Teigan O’Shannassy to a member of the 2019 team, although the defender will miss most of the 2019 season after suffering an Achilles injury last week during the Super Club competition in New Zealand. O’Shannassy has been a standout in defence for GIANTS Netball’s ANL team Canberra GIANTS and was one of the crucial players in their successful 2018 season where they took home the Silver Medal in the Grand Final.

“We will be supporting Teigan through her recovery over the coming year and are hopeful that she will make a return to the court in the second half of the 2019 season. We very much see her as an important part of the future of GIANTS Netball and our team will be providing her with all the expert care she needs to bounce back to full health,” says Fitzgerald.
