Price and Bassett 2019 Diamonds

BASSETT AND PRICE NAMED TO QUAD SERIES DIAMONDS TEAM

Caitlin Bassett and Jamie-Lee Price have been named to the 13-player Samsung Australian Diamonds team set to represent the country during the 2019 Quad Series. The GIANTS Netball players will travel to England for the competition, which will see the Samsung Australian Diamonds face New Zealand, South Africa and England in Liverpool and London from 13-20 January.

Samsung Australian Diamonds Head Coach Lisa Alexander and the national selectors have left the team unchanged from the side that took the Constellation Cup Series 3-1 over New Zealand. The decision shows confidence in the side and a willingness to see what combinations can develop ahead of the 2019 Netball World Cup in July.

The GIANTS Netball players presented a strong case for their inclusion in the side during the Constellation Cup Series played earlier this month. Price made her Diamonds debut during the match against the Silver Ferns on 14 October in Hamilton, New Zealand. The dynamic and fiercely competitive midcourter made a significant impact in her debut, after taking four of the seven intercepts secured by the Aussie team during the match. A mainstay on the Diamonds due to her steady and composed style, Bassett was once again a reliable goal scorer for Australia, shooting at 88% accuracy during the Constellation Cup Series.

Alexander says that the choice to remain with the same 13 athletes who played for Australia during the Constellation Cup will allow the Diamonds to trial options ahead of the 2019 Netball World Cup – one of the biggest events on the international netball calendar.

“We’re taking five mid-court athletes to England in January so we can continue to explore and evolve our playing combinations and game plan as we head towards the World Cup.

“Kate and Jamie-Lee both contributed differently to our mid-court during the Constellation Cup so we’re keen to explore those combinations a little bit further.

“I was very impressed with how we performed in both the recent Quad Series and Constellation Cup so I’m looking forward to January where we’ll again be competing on the world stage, further developing our game plans and starting to really build towards our 2019 World Cup campaign,” she said in a statement released by Netball Australia.

After the 2019 Quad Series, the Samsung Australian Diamonds will hold a 2019 Netball World Cup squad training camp in March and a selection camp in May, with the final selection of the 12-player 2019 Netball World Cup team set to be made in early June.
