This year, Matilda McDonell, an up and coming NSW defender, has joined the GIANTS family for her first elite season as netballer. McDonell is looking forward to growing not only as a player but as a person, as she becomes more immersed in the GIANTS Netball culture and team.
Lining up beside fellow GIANTS Kim Green and Sam Poolman for day one of pre-season has been an exciting adventure for the young player. With the intensity bar set high and maximum effort required at all times, McDonell is loving the challenge of becoming the best netballer she can be.
“The push is phenomenal. The vibe is so good, the team pushes each other to do every set and finish strongly,” said McDonell.
Before pre-season, McDonell was slightly hesitant about getting started, but she’s learned there was nothing to be apprehensive of and the team will always have her back.
“I was a little hesitant, not sure what I was getting myself into, but everyone’s been so supportive and backs you the whole way,” she shared.
McDonell has noticed a definitive step up in intensity in all aspects of the game.
“Training is really intense and that’s good, it shows the step up in the league from where I was and where Super Netball is. The increase in agility and fitness, we had a gym session which was so hard, it was next level, but I love the push,” she said.
Looking ahead to the next few months of pre-season, McDonell is keen to become more involved in the Club.
“I’m looking forward to getting more into the Club, it’s like a family, in a sense that everyone’s supporting each other and for me, that’s something I’m really looking forward to.
“I don’t think there’s anything not to be excited for. It’s so cool that this is my job now, I’m excited about everything,” said McDonell.
