Netball Australia have confirmed that GIANTS Netball will open their 2017 National Netball League account on home soil against local rivals NSW Swifts at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre on Saturday 18 February.

In what is set to be a mouth-watering clash for NSW netball fans, the fixture is just one of a number of State derbies which will take place in Round 1, and a wonderful way for GIANTS Netball to introduce themselves to the new competition.

As the Club’s first home game, it is an amazing opportunity for GIANTS Netball Foundation Members to begin their journey with the team as Australian netball enters a brand new chapter of its proud history.

“This is a huge moment for everyone associated with GIANTS Netball and I am both delighted and hugely excited that we get to start our campaign in our own backyard,” Head Coach Julie Fitzgerald said.

“It is not just exciting for our team, but also for our fans who have the opportunity to start their journey with the Club from the start – you can’t get any closer to the beginning than the very first game of a new competition!

“It is always very special to be able to say you were there for the start of something amazing and I’m very confident that’s what we are building here.”

Fitzgerald has assembled a formidable playing roster for the Club’s inaugural season, jammed packed with international and local NSW talent, and the coach said playing at home first up is an ideal start for the GIANTS.

“There are a lot of players on our roster who have very strong links to the local communities in Sydney and all over New South Wales so for them to start off this part of their careers in a place they know so well is very important,” Fitzgerald added.

“And for our international players this is a great way to get to know their supporters and the intensity of their home environment on match day, which will serve them well when they head on the road.”

Netball Australia is yet to confirm the remainder of the 2017 Fixture, which will consist of a 14-round regular season, plus an additional three weeks of Finals to follow.

GIANTS Netball, which is owned and operated by Netball NSW in a strategic alliance with GIANTS AFL, will reveal details about its Foundation Memberships in the coming weeks. To register for the Membership Waitlist and receive information as soon as it’s released head to
