On 18 April, GIANTS Netball hosted some young future GIANTS at a one-day school holiday workshop for aspiring netballers at Netball Central. Attendees were able to get a look at what it takes to be an elite GIANTS netballer while at the full-day event. Plus, the best part was that they got to learn first-hand from the GIANTS Netball players themselves.
The day was filled with behind-the-scenes access to GIANTS Netball and included fitness activities, a tour of the GIANTS training facilities and specialist coaching sessions from GIANTS Netball players. They also got to be there to watch the GIANTS undertake a training session.
Of the workshop, GIANTS Netball Head Coach Julie Fitzgerald said “I think it’s a really unique experience for kids to be able to spend a day with the GIANTS players. They were able to see them working in their environment and have a little exclusive look into where we train, what we do and how it all works on game day.” She continued, “to have a clinic afterwards to learn some valuable skills directly from the players – that’s a priceless experience”.
It wasn’t just a day to remember for the young netballers, as the GIANTS also had a lot to take away from the event. “The team always enjoy interacting with fans, particularly their younger fans. They’re also very appreciative of the fans, their support and what they do for us,” shared Fitzgerald.
